Praise Nwachukwu: Student Testimonial
Greetings, my name is Praise Nwachukwu. I studied at West Coast Christian School in Cape Town, South Africa and graduated in 2022. My current course of study is a bachelor’s degree in software engineering at Manchester Metropolitan University in Manchester, England.
Upon first introduction to the SwitchedOn program, the idea of working mostly on computers brought about a lot of excitement and intrigue. I was eager to start working with this curriculum and begin a new chapter in my academic journey. Looking back, given the circumstances of it being a completely new thing that both students and teachers had to navigate for the first time, the transition was relatively smooth. There were some hiccups in the early stages as this change required some adaptation and patience, but it took little time for things to start flowing well. Most of my classmates and I were quickly able to adapt to the changes and hit the ground running. Thankfully, the SwitchedOn program was not very difficult to understand and navigate. As time passed, things began to smoothen out, and the students started getting well-acquainted with the new system.
Overall, working with the SwitchedOn program was very good; the online studying allowed for great efficiency with work as I could carry my laptop anywhere and get my assignments done instead of having to move around with a load of books and stationary. This also provided more convenience when researching my work, as I could use the same device I was working on to access multiple digital resources.
There were a few features I had pleasantly enjoyed while working with the SwitchedOn program. These include the progress bar which allows students to see their progress in each subject and the pacing section indicating which subjects were in the “red” or “green”, translating to “behind” or “ahead” respectively. These features make it so that with just a glance the student can take note of their progress in different subjects with ease and allow them to plan their goals accordingly. This was a great way for students to learn about setting goals, individual discipline, and self-management in general. Another feature which I really appreciated was the Message of the Day, these messages had encouragements and Bible verses which I would try to read when I logged in to work.
Working on the SwitchedOn curriculum has been a useful aid in my establishment as an independent, self-managing learner. During my short time in tertiary education, I have come to realise that I have an edge over many of my fellow learners. I am familiar with several necessary study and research skills which are proving to be very valuable in my journey as a tertiary scholar. Skills such as time management, prioritizing, personal goal-setting, and individual disciplined study have assisted in my university achievements. Having developed these important skills over time has built my self-confidence going into this chapter of my academic journey, and as I continue to go on, I continue to see the importance of a good foundation established with the help of a solid, Biblical school system and curriculum.
