Gershom Coeries: Student Testimony
My name is Gershom Coeries and I am a 2023 SwitchedOn Education Graduate from Fountain of Life Christian School Uitenhage, I’m really delighted to share my experience as a student completing my schooling on the SwitchedOn curriculum. I am currently studying Film at AFDA Gqeberha.
I’ve been in Christian education since grade R. I was fortunate to have been moved to SwitchedOn Education in the last few years of my high school career. This has really boosted, not only my academics but also my faith. Academically, SwitchedOn has given me a solid education that has boosted me, since I’ve considered myself to be an average student. I have learnt to stay committed to my goals with the influence of daily scriptures.
I was very excited for the opportunity to choose electives such as Audio, Visual, and Film Careers that were not available in other curriculums. This specific subject has really given me the opportunity to broaden my knowledge about film making and gave me an advantage over other students at AFDA. It has also motivated me to do work outside of school over weekends in photography and videography which boosted my experience and earnings!
Now that I am in university, I do not struggle much to complete assignments because of the concept of independent learning we were taught in SwitchedOn Education at high school level. I have also been approached to become part of AFDA’s student body, CLVA (Committee For Learning Value Advantage), where I have the same responsibility as when I was a prefect and later head boy in high school.
Spiritually, SwitchedOn has prepared me for becoming a man of Godly values inside the ‘big world’ , preparing me for when my faith is tested in the real world. Because of the biblical subjects, I’ve learnt Godly principles which have been instilled me. This reminds me of Proverbs 22:6 which reads, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it”.
Lastly, I’m extremely grateful for the SwitchedOn Education experience. Students who are struggling should be consistent in putting in the hard work daily. It may not be easy but if you stay focused on God and the goal of finishing strong, nothing can stop you.
I would like to encourage the SwitchedOn Management and Educators to continue shaping children’s lives and building them up for success, already in this life. This curriculum will allow them to prosper in all areas of life. You have taught me so much, and helped shape me into the young man I am today, and I’m extremely grateful for that.
